Commarrah is thrilled to be taking part in the first-ever reading of Mara, Queen of the World, a play that explores the power of love and empathy to heal, enlighten, and transform.

About the playwright: The daughter of a Nigerian father and African American mother, Rebecca Nichloson is a playwright, poet, singer, and performer.

She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in playwriting from Columbia University and an M.A. in English Literature. Writing awards and fellowships include a 2017 Sesame Street Writers' Room fellowship, NBC Universal's UCP Pitchfest 2017 (Alternate), a Liberace Award, a Matthew's Fellowship and Howard Stein fellowship, a DRA fellowship from Columbia University, and a 2014 America-In-Play Fellowship.

Ms. Nichloson has taught playwriting at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, was a 2015 finalist for an Atlantic Media Editorial Fellowship, winner of the 2013 Jane Chambers Award for "Hello, I'm Eve" (a two-act episodic play), and a 2008-2009 Many Voices Fellowship at the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis.
